Here sharky, sharky

GREAT WHITE SHARKS in SOUTH AFRICA

I am fed up, bru!
As much as I am terrified shitless of them beasts, the cul
ling of them here in False Bay is WRONG! It's our fault tha
t they are in that area anyway, with all the chumming of wa
ter because of the shark cage diving - we are therefore all
owing the sharks to associate man with food so it was only
a matter of time before they started biting (or eating) us
surfers! 2 weekends ago, I had a nudge underneath my board
and then a swishing of a fin and MY WORD it took everything
I had to be calm and catch the next wave in - but we
are in their territory - I have NO right to go kill them!!< >BRIf you stand in front of a train and get killed - are we
going to stop railway transport??? NO - because you were i
n the trains way, where the trains belong, on a railway! SO
, if you are surfing in the sea WHERE SHARKS do live (where
else are they supposed to?) then we can't complain.

Anyway, just thought I'd let rip. Later.

haha, ok, so you have persuaded me to scratch cage diving off my list of things to do before I die, so it is now your responsibility to show me the spots if I ever come to SA, haha! Stay safe, Jesus thats some scary shit, I freak when a bluefish brushes my bare legs, thanks for making me feel like a complete wuss!

I agree, we take the risk. If that's how I was meant to go out, then so be it. But I always carry a small knife with me in the water. Not to fight off the sharks.......to stick the kook who just dropped in on me when I see the fin in the water :)

Right on. I'm not sure where the bible comes into it - Human's do not have dominion over anything - we are merely guests on planet earth who should be respectful of all other species we share the planet with. Another contributing factor would with out a doubt be the depletion of fish 'stocks'. We've depleted fish numbers by 70% thanks to commercial fisheries - it's no wonder the poor fuckers are hungry.

i agree shelley, i think that when u enter the water u assume the risk of being bitten...its a possibility...if the u think the possibility is high that u will be attacked than dont go out..dont blame someone else ( like the shark ) if u do get bitten...i dont believe we have the right to start culling them, and i think its a bit rich for old mate to say the lord giveth, the lord taketh away...sorry but that is crap...as u said shelley: we are tresspassing into their territory...they are just doing wat sharks do...have they tried shark netting? i dont know how effective that is or the effect it has on the rest of the ecosystem ( like whales getting tangled ) or the cost...but i really think that culling them is not the answer and that there has got to be a better way...l8tr matey
