What's it like to surf? I forget. All I do is move boxes an
d empty boxes and go to work. whimper

Had a great mother's day! Went up to my mom's. She and my d
aughter and I went shopping. Then we took the kid to the in
let. The caution shark sign was out and the ranger said it
was bull sharks. I hate those guys. Anyway, we were careful
. Waves were about 3-4 not great but very fun. My kido was
riding her 6'3 and Gerry and I were boogin'. Then Chels wan
ted to switch with me so she could boog. I kept an eye out.
Don't want any sharp creatures near my kid. I wonder if th
at makes me a bad parent...taking my child in water where b
ull sharks were spotted. But we did see a family of manatee
s as soon as we got in the water, so that somehow made me f
eel better. Other mammals besides ourselves. Chels had a gr
eat time AND I finally got her to use swim fins. After our
sesh, we took my mom out to dinner. Had some babyback ribs.
Gerry drove home and I sat in the back with my little budd
y Sam (dog) sleeping next to me, listening to my old hippie
music. So peaced out. Good thing too because the rest of t
his week is going to be the closing and moving. I'm trying
not to think about it.

I'm dying y'all. Haven't been in the water since May 1. No
waves. Feel like crap anyway. Feeling very overwhelmed. We'
re closing on the house on Thur. Still trying to get the ho
me owners ins. people to get their act together. Just check
ed my email...it's $1332 for the hazard and $2234 for wind
coverage for the year. That's not too bad...relative to wha
t, I don't know, but not too bad. So, I'm poor now. But at
least we'll have a house. On the plus side, there's a blueg
rass festival down by the beach so we'll go check that out,
maybe ride our bikes down there. Peace. L.

Been having really fun sessions all weekend. It's been grea
t. Yesterday was my B-day and I found a new spot as a sort
of a birthday gift from God, I guess. Not like He does
n't have more important things to do, but God's gotta be a&
nbsp;waterman, right? Anyway, it is just a little
south of the pier. Surfed for 2 hours. Waves wer
e about 6' on the bigger sets and just hammerin' down into
about 1 foot of water. I was being careful not to become ho
pelessly paralyzed. So much fun! I was out with 3 other boo
gers too! That never happens...I'm always the only one. It
was so nice to be with others of my species. We were all ha
ving a blast. Then went home all peaced out and my oldest (
who just got accepted to Johnson and Wales) made me this de
licious Mahi dinner and baked me a cake! It was just one of
the best birthdays I've ever had. 45 feels great!

Finally got out yesterday. Checked the surf at one of my lo
cal spots Friday after work and it was pathetic. Felt
really down, but Ger cheered me up being goofy. So my frien
d G. calls yesterday morning and tells me it's good up in F
t. Laud. It was fun too. 3-4' and breaking fast but after s
o long off the sponj it felt great. Was out with G. and his
wife and two other friends. I was getting some fun lefts a
nd rights. It was a challenge not getting creamed by the wh
ite water since they were breaking so quick. Love doing spi
nners but they were not to be had that day. Some big hunky
longboarder tried to start up a convo. There was a&nbs
p;little shortb. girl with him and his buddy. Man, she
gave me such a stink eye....ouch. What the hell is she wor
ried about?!?!? She's like 20 something. I'm going to be 45
freakin' years old in a week! May 1. I'm hardly a threat.
Oh well. I was polite and paddled away. I feel great today
too. Peaced out and physically good. But too bad. The surf
reports look pretty dim for the next week. Maybe we'll make
a trip upcoast soon.

Surfed Fri. through Sun. last weekend. Fri and Sun weren't
so good but Saturday was fun. Waves were clean. Surfed the
7'6. Going out this Fri. Hopefully it'll be sponji. Going t
o try to head up coast on Sunday and pray there are some bo
ogie waves. Water is still a little nippy up there but
I don't care. Back is bothering me today. Old injury. Hurt
it back when I was like 20 while doing a show. Another dan
cer fell on me if you can imagine. Then I re-hurt it about
4 years ago shortboarding. I hope it feels better by tomorr
ow so I can get in the water this weekend. Peace

n. It was so lame. But, the water was warm again and the ai
r was nice and warm too. So, hopefully things pick up. Didn
't stay long. It was getting dark. I don't stay after
dark. No no. Wasted the morning house hunting. I hate house
s. I hate realtors. We're thinking of getting the heck
out of Dodge and maybe heading up to Cocoa or North C
arolina. But it's hard because we both have good paying job
s here. If we haul off to Bumfluck, USA, one of us will lik
ely have to flip hamburgers at the local Sonic Burger (uuum
mmm....Sonic Burger). It all sucks. And have you ever
tried to figure out a seating arrangement for a wedding rec
eption? That sucks too. Especially when you have certain fa
mily members who can't be seated next to each other. Sorry,
I'm whining. I'll shut up now. 

Went out Saturday. It was lame. Didn't think the waves were
good for sponj so I surfed the fun-b for a while. That tot
ally sucked. Winds were onshore, ESE at 15-20 so it was jus
t choppy. I said screw this and took the Mike out anyways.
Actually had more fun on the boog. Sunday we went up to Jen
sen beach to see my mom and check the waves. They were same
up there too which was discouraging. So we didn't get in.
Not worth getting cold over.

ticle in the local paper about this surf spot that is by Po
rt Everglades. It's called the Spoils. The assclowns that t
hey were interviewing are trying to make it sound like some
deep dark secret, saying that they'll get their asses kick
ed if they tell the reporter. I was laughing my ass off. It
's a nasty spot that anyone who knows anything about surfin
g down here knows about. I surfed it when I was like 19. If
you like getting creamed by big ships or bitten by the sha
rks that hang around the underwater ledge (shipping channel
) it's great. But if you have half a brain you drive one ho
ur up to Jupiter or Hobe Sound. Retards. Standups can be su
ch retards.

Sunday was good. Chels and I went to one of my spots and sa
w one booger out. We paddled out and it was no good. That s
pot has changed in the last few weeks. There used to be a f
un shorebreak but it's taken a crap. Went down to Dani
a and the pier was overrun with skimmers so we went a littl
e south. Where the lifeguard threw me out the other day, bu
t Sunday was a lady lifeguard and she didn't seem to care.
We paddled out and as we're there, it starts getting bigger
and funner (if that's a word). We had a blast but couldn't
stay too long. I had to meet the realtors. I already hate
this home buying shit and we've only been looking about a m
onth. All these foreigners and yankees from up north are co
ming down and pricing us out of our own home town. It sucks
. But we put a bid on a house today and gave them a low-bal
l bid. So we'll see.
