Went to Shark Valley in the Everglades. Pretty cool. 15 mil
e bike loop. Saw every kind of water bird, gators everywher
e. Saw some little baby gators sunning themselves. The wate
r was full of fish, gar, bass, oscars. It was really good t
o see. Thank God for the Everglades. At least the bastard d
evelopers can't get their hands on it. Developers have ruin
ed my state.

Took my daughter out Saturday. We had
a great time. She hasn't been surfing in a while. She'
s a weird kid. She goes through phases. Started standup whe
n she was 8. Then at 13 she would only bodyboard. Then 14 o
nly bodysurf ...no boards. She wanted to experience the pur
est form of surfing. She started meditating and chanting an
d stuff too. Then she stopped. So she sponged with me on Sa
t. and was so peaced out afterward. It was great to se
e. I felt great in the water. Haven't been out for like 3 w
eeks. It felt so good and was having just one of those dead
on days. Top it off, that night Gerry and I went with frie
nds to the Mardi Gras downtown and had a blast. Heard some
really good zydeco bands. Fun weekend.

Please God...let there be waves this weekend. Your servant
is desperate. Please let the waves be sweet and glassy and
please do not smote me, for I knowest thou can in the blink
est of an eye. Please keep thine sharks at bay...yea,
I say "thine" sharks for thou hast created them...I will tr
y not to question thine motives....Amen

Hey, found a
n officiant for our wedding. He's an old hippy from the six
ties as opposed to a younger hippy from the 70's. Ponytail
and all...Rev. John Healy from the Church of Brotherly Love
, or some such. Anyway he's cool and legal so I'm happy. If
I don't get in the water this weekend I'm going to go post
al.

I didn't even know about one of them. And you have to gues
s who sent it. Out of how many people on this blog? I
couldn't guess. They were probably sent by mistake anyway.< >BR
Went out the other day. Waves weren't great but didn
't care. Waves have sucked this winter. Anyway, this touris
t is taking pictures of me sponjin'. This is like the 3rd t
ime this has happened. I think next time I go out, I'm goin
g to wear a Disney character head ... like a big Mini Mouse
head and truly be a Florida attraction. I can stand next t
o their kids with my big head on and my bodyboard and they
can snap pictures and I can charge a $1 a picture. Whadda y
a think?

Finally got in the water on Friday. It felt so good. Water
was cold but got used to it pretty quick. Waves weren’t big
but they were very clean which I love. So long as it’s cle
an, I almost don’t care how big…almost. Started out at my l
ittle mellow spot. Surfed the Manta there for about an hour
, …still haven’t put the plug in my MS. Can we say “lazy”?
Then went down to Palm St. It was a longer paddle out and t
he current was stronger there. It’s a bit of a walk to that
spot too. So surfed there about half hour and started walk
ing back toward my car. Saw it was breaking closer in furth
er down the beach. I paddle out and catch my first wave, ta
ke it left and do a spinner. Lifeguard blasts his horn at m
e and points me to move futher south. I didn’t get that. Wh
y’d he let me paddle out and it’s not like there was anyone
else in the water. So I came in. It was lunch time anyway.
It was great though, because the day was so sunny and nice
. Now it’s going to be really cold for the next few days. G
oing down into the upper 30’s tonight. So just watch the Ol
ympics for a couple days. Just saw Sean White make his seco
nd run.

Just had a class of 34 first graders. God they were so cute
. Did an Anansi story for them with flannelboard and spider
puppet. They loved it. But they were all coughing and snot
ting all over me. I'm doomed. Heading up to St. Auggie day
after tomorrow. Can't wait :)

Haven't been in the water since the 23rd. I feel like crap.
Really depressed, physically and otherwise. Going up to St
. Augustine on Sunday for 3 days to meet with the realtor a
nd look at land. We're going to camp out up there. The temp
is going down to 39 the first night. We're going to freeze
our asses off! I don't even think I'm going to try to surf
. The water temp is 58...don't think my wetsuit is going to
cut it. Yeah, I'm sure I'll get in the water and freeze an
d get out in 15 min. cause I'm stupid like that. I'm s
ick of winter now. I have a little problem with weathe
r and mood. It sucks. Can't wait for the days to get l
onger again.

We had off Fri. so we put the boards on Gerry's back and ro
de our bikes down to the beach. No wet suits and it was col
d. But after the initial mammalian dive reflex sort of shoc
k, we were ok. Lot's of man0wars in the water with us. One
other guy was out bodysurfing. He had one of those little h
and boards. I'd never seen one before in person. It was nea
t but I'm not sure how effective it was. After about 4
5 min. I was frozen.

Went out yesterday with my fri
ends. We were getting killed...them because they were tryin
g to longboard in shortb/boggie waves and me because I
still haven't leashed my new board so I was being overly c
autious and missing plenty of good waves. It was rough. Str
ong current and big dumpers. Go home and put the nasty hole
in my pretty board and realize the plug I have is broken.
That's ok. We're going up to St. Augustine early next month
so will stop at BBHQ and get a new one.

Just got back from Philly. We missed our flight because
of a truck turned over on 95, but got a flight 2 hours late
r. We landed, or as I like to call it, "falling from the sk
y", at midnight so I'm beat. PA was great. The future in-la
ws and family are the best. They are such nice people. They
live out in Amish country. It's dropdead gorgeous. But col
der than a witch's tit in a brass bra. But, you can't go sn
owboarding without the cold. That was a f*&kin' blast!
I loved it! Once I stopped trying to make it surfing or ska
teboarding, and let it be what it is, which is nothing like
either one of those things, it flowed. Gerry was good, but
he's skiied before. I haven't seen snow since I was 7 year
s old. Went snowtubing too. That was fun.
Traumatized so
me Amish kids. Didn't know you weren't supposed to take the
ir pictures. They were playing in the school yard and we sl
owed down. I snapped the picture from the car pretty far aw
ay. The kids started screaming and one kid was waving me of
f and the school bell started ringing. I'm going, "What?!?
What did I do???" It was too funny.

Went out in junk this morning. Had
to go to work so only for 45 min. Just wanted to get in the
water. I’m not going to get in again till weekend after th
is one. The only water I’m going to see will be frozen. Got
ta go get some thermals. Everyone tells me to get them. Wha
t the hell do I know. I’m a southern girl Florida
hick. It get’s cold here but not so cold you need thermals.
Anyway, the water felt good and I was being really lazy. C
aught a few waves, what there was, got some spinners, but m
ostly I just wanted to float and feel the water.
