Oh my God, ya’ll….Thanksgiving morn
ing was perfect! Went up to Ft. Lauderd
ale at 7 a.m. Waves were so clean and so glassy.
Surfed the 7’6. Just wasn’t sponj-a-licious. Surfed again o
n Saturday. Yesterday sponged my butt off. Awesome 2 hour s
esh. Was riding my daughter’s Custom X. Sweet board. Very f
ast. Still hoping to get a MS for Xmas.
Only got in one 2.5 hr. sesh this week. It was good yesterd
ay. Lots of fun. Have a 4 day weekend coming up and hope th
eres waves. Going up to see the Atlantic Bodyboarding comps
Sunday. Should be good. Gobble gobble!

Back in the water yesterday a
nd today. Finally! It felt so good. I think it’s been going
on 3 weeks. Went down yesterday by myself. Hubby-to-be had
to work and my other buddy had his kiddies. It was nice th
ough. There were 4 standups out. Waves were breaking too cl
ose in. They weren’t getting much. But I was. Ever have one
of those days where you’re just on. That was yesterday. Ca
tchin’ one after another mostly lefts. Doing spinners and r
olls, it was so much fun. Felt like a dolphin J Eee ee
e - eee eee! Stayed out for 2 hours. Got an hour in this mo
rning before work. Waves were bigger today but not as clean
. Didn’t get as many waves but got good ones. Then had to c
ome to work L
Took off early from work yesterday because I couldn't bear
going home to a dark house again ...still no power...day 13
. Stopped by the beach. Figured hell, I'll get some this af
ternoon. The "no swimmers" flag was flying. I asked the lif
eguard what up. Contamination from Wilma. Sewage. I am not
swimming in other people's shit. That water is going to hav
e to be vacuumed, dusted and dry cleaned before I get
in it. Maybe we'll go up coast this weekend. Cocoa bch or F
ort P. is sounding real good right about now. I hate Wilma.
Um um um! Today's special is Uncle Crusty's Rice-o-veggie s
urprise, canned and processed in Bumfuk Idaho. Idaho? No, y
ou da ho! The cool weather is gone. I still don't ha
ve power. Last night sleeping with the windows open and the
rain falling, our blankets getting damper and damper. Humi
dity was bad. Felt sort of like sleeping in a Burmese penal
colony. Another cold shower this morning. Everyone's windo
ws are open and I'm getting way more familiar with my neigh
bors noises than I ever wanted to be. I don't feel human an
ymore. Walk around dazed with a copy of ROT and Modern Brid
e under my arm. But at least I get to come to work and get
8 hours of electricity, oh and work too I guess. Well, that
part sucks, but it's not all gravy. I need to sponj
...my body is craving it. Maybe Saturday, if I don't have t
o spend all day looking for a place to wash my clothes or g
et ice or sit in a gas line for 2 hours.
10/31/05 - Well, my landlord
figured that Wilma was only going to be a tropical storm. H
e didn’t put up shutters so I got to watch all 8 hours of t
he category 2 hurricane through my front window. We have be
en without power for 8 days now. Cold showers suck! Power w
as restored in downtown so I came to work today. Finally go
t some decent coffee. The gas lines have gotten better. Don
’t have to wait 4 hours …now it’s about a 1 hour wait. Got
some ice and water from FEMA. They threw some food in the c
ar too. Weird labels from places like Iowa … “Aunt Mable’s” bottled water a
nd stuff. Our kitchen flooded a little but that was it. The
house was built in the 1930’s so it’s built to stand up to
hurricanes. Did watch the sliding glass doors bowing throu
gh the whole storm like they were about to implode any minu
te. The stores are finally getting meat and perishables. We
’re not going to get power for another week or so. Yesterda
y and today the surf is blown out crap from Gamma or Beta o
r whatever shit is churning up down there in the Carib. Goo
d news, we got a cold front right on the heels of the storm
so it’s been in the 60’s and 70’s. We’ve been doing good t
hough. All the neighbors get together at night and we cook
and drink and stuff. So, once I can take a cold shower agai
n and have a real cup of coffee...not that freeze drie
d crap...I'll be happy.
Went out
this morning and it was ok....I wasn't having a go od day.
But, now it's 10:30 pm and I'm at my friends hurri c ane p
arty and who gives a shit! Hope we live!
Waiting for Hurricane Wilma. I don’t go out in st
orm s anymore. Used to do that crazy crap when I was a kid
, but now….eh, gimme a glass of wine and some Oscar Peterso
n and I’ll wait it out. &am

l freaked out. Engaged now. Was fitted for my ring this mor
n ing. Emerald with diamonds. I love it. But I’m scarred s
hi t less. Plus I haven’t been in the water since Monday.<

Yesterday, the
waves were really clean. Nice even sets. But they weren’t g
ood for bodyboarding. They were about hip and crumbly. So p
addled out on the 7’6. My K board, a.k.a. my longboard. Had
a really fun sesh. Haven’t done standup in months. Felt go
od.
After 2 hours, paddled back in to check on this li
ttle finch we found on our way to the beach. She looked lik
e maybe she’d been brushed by a car or something and she wa
s stunned. She was so tiny and delicate. Lost a couple of h
er feathers. We put her in a towel under a tree until she r
ecouperated. When I came back in she was gone so I guess sh
e was ok. Just stunned. Shorebreak had
picked up nicely by then so I sponged for another hour. Ver
y fun. Went to Dairy Belle and pounded down some chow.
Today is supposed to be good too. Looks like it will be mo
re of a boogie day, which is fine with me.
Took a ride up to Ft. Laud. bch. It was
ok but not great. One guy out struggling on a shortboard a
nd two longboarders. I got homesick and headed back down to
Dania. Really glad I did . There was some fun shorey. Shor
ebreak Andy was out. He's this older guy, around late 50 so
mething. Shortboarder. I love to surf with him. He is alway
s nice and will share the waves with me. And he is one of t
he most graceful surfers
I've ever seen. He drives this
little beat up white car. He drinks too much. But he is qu
iet and nice. I like him. There
were some young guys out too. They were trying to figure ou
t why their cheapass grocery store boogers weren't really p
roviding any glide. They were getting pissed in a good natu
red sort of way because I was getting waves and they weren'
t. It started to get dark. I don
't stay in the water after dark. It makes me feel creeped o
ut and cold inside.

10/1/05 - Had a good sesh up to Delray. Met a friend of min
e. He was longboarding and getting killed. Waves were too s
teep for his mode of glide. I let him use my sponj and he w
as loving it. He wants me to help him buy a board now and f
ins. Proselytize brothers and sisters. 10/2/05 - Big na
sty blown out. Washer machine on the spin cycle from hell.
Typical FL blow-crap. Had two students. No way I was taking
them out in that. But they want to learn to surf, "right n
ow!" Future shortboarders. Told them they could use my body
boards. An hour later they were toast. Hour
and only one got one ride. Damn I hate teaching sponj. Peop
le put fins on and immediately become retarded. They just d
on't get it. It's so hard to teach. I was straining at the
bit too. Seeing some choice wave possibilities on the outsi
de and I'm stuck with the ducklings. Oh well, single parent
hood and gotta make the green. Not like Racer X helps out a
ll that much. 10/5/05 - Had a really serene
sesh this morning. I love morning sessions. Went out with G
er my sweetness. Felt great.
